Coinbase Denies Hiding Hacks as Customer Complaints and Ari Paul’s Allegations Escalate

A public dispute over Coinbase’s handling of customer fund-loss complaints intensified over the past week on X, pulling in company executive Jordan Cobie Fish, former Coinbase employee Justin Mart, and BlockTower Capital founder Ari Paul. The argument began after a trader posting as kuno alleged that Coinbase had taken $1.2 million from them a year earlier, said their account had been locked without explanation, and claimed they had opened more than 30 support tickets. Fish responded that he could not find an account matching the description and later said Coinbase had received no response to outreach over the past 6+ months, adding that the dispute appeared to be a fake or scam report used to promote a token. Paul then raised the stakes, alleging that Coinbase lost $25 million of BlockTower’s funds a couple of years ago and concealed massive, repeated hacks affecting at least a dozen firms, with more than $1 billion in losses hidden from public view. He has not released evidence, citing ongoing legal processes, and Unchained said it could not independently verify the claims. Coinbase rejected the accusation, saying it is not hiding a series of hacks and did not lose $1 billion. Mart suggested stolen credentials and Lazarus Group-linked withdrawals were a more likely explanation, while Paul said outside forensic firms and the Secret Service were involved and that his team traced the attack to a specific Coinbase codebase.
